Vibration Testing Lab Tools

The vibration testing laboratory is to carry out research on different serviceability points as related to structural vibrations. This lab has been established to help in the better understanding of vibration testing, its consequences, and the solutions. This lab has been designed in such a way so as to provide maximum convenience to the services industries. This lab has been made possible through an important contribution by the Division of Civil, Mechanical, and Building Innovation of the National Science Foundation; in-house contributions from Nucor, Inc., and numerous other service providers. The key elements incorporated in the Vibration Test Laboratory are as follows:

A Large and well-equipped test chamber is located inside the vibration testing lab. The apparatus used here includes (but not limited to) a drum, standard tester, and computer based equipment. The environment inside this chamber is characterized by controlled temperature, which lets the standard tester register both high and low frequency vibrations at the same time. The control enables the user to study both high and low frequency excitation strengths simultaneously. Low frequency vibrations occur at high frequencies and vice versa. This equipment allows the user to view the strengths at different frequencies.

Outside, the Vibration Testing Laboratory also features non-contact and contact vibration testing fixtures. These fixtures are made using non-magnetic properties and therefore do not produce any interference, which in turn minimizes the cost of installation. Outside, there are several control panels and displays, which allow the users to easily monitor and control different aspects of the testing. This makes the entire testing process more efficient.

An important addition to the Vibration Test Laboratory is the Vibration Testing Table. A vibration table is the most important fixture in a vibration-testing lab as it is the main platform for conducting the vibration tests. The vibration table must be made of a sturdy, durable material that will handle the constant exposure to different levels of vibrations and still maintain its
solidity. Ideally, the base should be adjustable so that the legs of the table can be adjusted for different test methods. It must also have a heavy duty lock to prevent tampering, which would compromise the integrity of the data.

The test method chosen by the laboratory must conform to the quality requirements of the ISO This Quality Control procedure focuses on the measurement of random and continuous vibrations occurring in an area without interruptions. Different channels of data can be connected through the table and each channel of data will represent on measurement. The data channels can be automatically monitored via a computer or networked system, thus allowing the Vibration Testing Lab to easily calculate the average and standard deviation of the data.

One of the most popular test methods used by a vibration testing lab is the resistive-type measuring device. This equipment can be either resistive or non-resistive. It is usually mounted on a vibration testing stand. The stand can hold the apparatus and its installation is quick and easy. The two measuring modes can be operated simultaneously.
